Soft, heart-shaped leaves in deep green with a subtle silvery sheen that catches the light in the quietest, most beautiful way. The Homalomena Silveri is an underrated gem in the world of indoor plants, easier to care for than many of its tropical-looking counterparts, and far more interesting than it first appears. It rewards a consistent routine and grows into a lush, full plant that feels genuinely considered in any space.
CARE GUIDE
+ POSITION / LIGHT: Bright to medium indirect light is ideal. Tolerates lower light better than most, making it a good option for spots that don't get a lot of natural light.
+ WATERING: Allow the top 2–3cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Consistent moisture is welcome, waterlogged roots are not.
+ TEMPERATURE: Happiest between 18–27°C. Sensitive to cold, keep away from drafts and temperatures below 15°C.
+ FERTILISER: Feed once a month through spring and summer with a diluted balanced liquid fertiliser. Wind back over autumn and winter.
+ GROWTH RATE: Moderate. Builds into a dense, full plant over time with regular care and good light.
+ PET FRIENDLY: No, toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Keep out of reach.
FAQ'S
1. The leaves are yellowing at the base. Is that normal? Some lower leaf loss as the plant matures is normal. If yellowing is happening more broadly, check for overwatering or low light and adjust from there.
2. Can I propagate it? Yes. Divide the plant at the base during repotting, ensuring each division has healthy roots attached. Pot up in fresh well draining mix and keep warm while it establishes.
3. The silvery sheen on the leaves seems to be fading. What's happening? Usually a sign it needs a little more light. Move it to a brighter spot with good indirect light and new growth should come through with the silvery markings more pronounced.
