Thick, waxy leaves on long trailing vines that seem to go on forever, and clusters of starry, fragrant flowers that appear when the plant is truly happy. The Hoya Carnosa is a slow-growing, long-living plant that rewards patience with one of the most charming displays in the indoor plant world. Pass it down, trail it across a shelf, or let it climb. It has time.
CARE GUIDE
+ POSITION / LIGHT: Bright indirect light is ideal. A spot near a sunny window with filtered light will encourage flowering. Avoid deep shade which prevents blooming entirely.
+ WATERING: Allow the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings. Hoyas store water in their thick leaves and are far more tolerant of drought than overwatering. In winter, water very sparingly.
+ TEMPERATURE: Comfortable between 16–27°C. Tolerates cooler temperatures reasonably well but keep away from frost and prolonged cold drafts.
+ FERTILISER: Feed once a month through spring and summer with a diluted balanced liquid fertiliser. A fertiliser higher in phosphorus will encourage flowering.
+ GROWTH RATE: Slow to moderate. This is not a plant in a hurry, but given time it will develop into something truly beautiful.
+ PET FRIENDLY: Yes, non-toxic to cats and dogs. 🐾
FAQ'S
1. My Hoya hasn't flowered yet. What am I doing wrong? Hoyas need bright light, a slightly rootbound pot, and a period of cooler temperatures in winter to trigger flowering. Patience is key as younger plants rarely flower until they are well established.
2. Can I propagate it? Yes, easily. Take a stem cutting with at least one node and two leaves and place it in water or moist soil. Keep warm and in bright indirect light while it roots. Hoyas propagate reliably and make wonderful gifts.
3. Should I remove the spent flower clusters after blooming? No. Leave the spent flower spurs in place as Hoyas rebloom from the same spurs season after season. Removing them means losing next season's flowers.
