Soft, heart-shaped leaves on long trailing vines that seem to grow while you're not looking. The Heart Leaf Philodendron is one of those plants that just works, draping beautifully from a shelf, climbing a pole, or sitting in a hanging pot by a window. It's forgiving, fast-growing, and genuinely hard to make look bad. A great first plant, and a plant that experienced collectors still make room for.
CARE GUIDE
+ POSITION / LIGHT: Thrives in bright indirect light but adapts well to lower light conditions. Growth will slow in darker spots but the plant stays healthy.
+ WATERING: Allow the top 2–3cm of soil to dry out between waterings. It tolerates occasional missed waterings better than it tolerates sitting in wet soil.
+ TEMPERATURE: Comfortable between 15–27°C. Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 12°C.
+ FERTILISER: Feed once a month through spring and summer with a diluted balanced liquid fertiliser. No feeding needed over winter.
+ GROWTH RATE: Fast. One of the quicker growing houseplants, especially through the warmer months.
+ PET FRIENDLY: No, toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Keep out of reach.
FAQ'S
1. Why are the leaves small and widely spaced on the vine? Not enough light. Move it somewhere brighter and new growth should come through larger and closer together.
2. How do I make it look fuller? Pinch back the longer vines to encourage branching, and consider propagating cuttings back into the same pot to build density.
3. The leaves are yellowing all over. What's wrong? Usually overwatering. Check the soil before each water and make sure the pot has good drainage. Yellow leaves that appear one at a time on older growth are normal and nothing to worry about.
