Plant Size ↓

Creamy white and pale yellow leaves edged in deep green, with a boldness that fills a room without overwhelming it. The Tropic Marianne is one of the most striking Dieffenbachia varieties around, bringing a tropical, resort-like feel to any indoor space. It grows confidently, looks great at floor level or on a low stand, and thrives with just a little regular attention. A beautiful choice for anyone wanting something lush and a little bit luxurious.

CARE GUIDE

+ POSITION / LIGHT: Bright indirect light brings out the best colour contrast. Tolerates lower light but growth will slow and the creamy variegation may fade over time.

+ WATERING: Allow the top 2–3cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly and allow to drain. Reduce watering over the cooler months.

+ TEMPERATURE: Happiest between 18–27°C. Sensitive to cold, keep away from drafts, air conditioning and temperatures below 15°C.

+ FERTILISER: Feed once a month through spring and summer with a diluted balanced liquid fertiliser. No feeding needed over winter.

+ GROWTH RATE: Moderate to fast in good conditions. Produces large new leaves regularly through the warmer months.

+ PET FRIENDLY: No, toxic to cats, dogs and humans if ingested. Wash hands after handling and keep out of reach of children and pets.

FAQ'S

1. The lower leaves are yellowing and dropping off. Is that normal? Some lower leaf loss as the plant grows is completely normal. If it's happening rapidly or higher up the plant, check for overwatering or low light and adjust accordingly.

2. Can I propagate it? Yes. Stem cuttings with at least one node can be rooted in water or moist soil. Wear gloves when taking cuttings as the sap can cause skin and eye irritation.

3. The leaves are drooping even though I've just watered it. What's wrong? Paradoxically this can be a sign of overwatering rather than underwatering. Check the soil and roots for signs of rot. If the roots are healthy, the plant may just need a little more light and warmth to perk back up.
