Wide, generously patterned leaves in creamy yellow and soft green, with a lush, layered look that feels genuinely tropical. The Tropical Tiki is a compact, well-behaved Dieffenbachia that brings serious warmth and colour to any indoor space without taking over the room. It grows steadily, looks beautiful at bench or floor height, and rewards a little consistency with a lot of leaf. The kind of plant that makes a space feel like somewhere you want to be.
CARE GUIDE
+ POSITION / LIGHT: Bright indirect light keeps the variegation vivid and growth steady. Tolerates lower light but the creamy patterning will soften over time.
+ WATERING: Allow the top 2–3cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly, allow to drain fully, and reduce watering over the cooler months.
+ TEMPERATURE: Happiest between 18–27°C. Keep away from cold drafts, air conditioning and temperatures below 15°C.
+ FERTILISER: Feed once a month through spring and summer with a diluted balanced liquid fertiliser. No feeding needed over winter.
+ GROWTH RATE: Moderate. Produces broad new leaves regularly through the warmer months, staying more compact than many other Dieffenbachia varieties.
+ PET FRIENDLY: No, toxic to cats, dogs and humans if ingested. Wash hands after handling and keep out of reach of children and pets.
FAQ'S
1. The tips of the leaves are turning brown. What's causing it? Usually low humidity or inconsistent watering. Try to water on a regular schedule, avoid letting it dry out completely, and consider a humidifier nearby if your home is particularly dry.
2. Can I propagate it? Yes. Stem cuttings with at least one node can be rooted in water or moist soil. Wear gloves when taking cuttings as the sap can irritate skin and eyes.
3. The lower leaves keep dropping off. Should I be concerned? Some lower leaf loss as the plant grows upward is completely normal. If it's happening quickly or higher up the plant, check light levels and watering consistency.
