The Calathea 'Mini Mak' is the compact cousin of the classic Peacock Plant (Calathea makoyana), featuring the same dazzling foliage in a smaller, more manageable size. Its leaves are oval and delicate, patterned with bold feather-like markings in deep green and light lime, with purplish undersides that flash dramatically when they move. This petite beauty adds a lush, tropical vibe to shelves, desktops, or plant clusters - perfect for plant lovers who are short on space but big on style.

Calathea Mini Mak 〰️ Care Guide

POSITION / LIGHT: Thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate medium light, but the patterns may fade in low-light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn the leaves.

WATERING: Keep soil evenly moist, but not soggy. Water when the top 2–3cm of soil is dry. Calatheas are sensitive to fluoride and chemicals in tap water—use filtered or rainwater if possible.

TEMPERATURE: Loves a warm, stable environment between 18–26°C. Avoid cold drafts, air conditioners, or heaters. It also appreciates high humidity—mist regularly or use a humidifier.

FERTILISER: Feed once a month in spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser. Skip feeding in the cooler months when growth slows.

GROWTH RATE: Slow to moderate grower. Stays compact and bushy—ideal for tabletops or small spaces, typically reaching 20–30cm in height.

PET FRIENDLY? Yes! Calathea 'Mini Mak' is non-toxic and safe for pets and little humans alike.

FAQ'S 〰️

Should I cut brown leaves off Calathea?

Yes. If a leaf is completely brown or dead, trim it off at the base to allow the plant to redirect energy to new growth. If just the tips are brown, you can trim those carefully with clean scissors.

What is a common problem with Calathea?

Low humidity and inconsistent watering are common issues. They often cause crispy leaf edges, brown tips, or curling. Calatheas are a bit dramatic when their needs aren’t met—but once you find the right rhythm, they’re very rewarding!

What does an overwatered Calathea look like?

Signs include yellowing leaves, limp stems, or soil that feels constantly wet. If the plant looks sad and soggy, check for root rot and let the soil dry out before watering again.
