Calathea Marion is a striking variety of prayer plant, loved for its bold, rounded leaves that show off a vivid pattern of deep green with soft pinkish-red midribs and veins. The undersides of the leaves reveal a rich burgundy, creating a beautiful contrast when the leaves fold up at night, true to the “prayer plant” family tradition. This plant adds a pop of colour and elegance, making it a standout feature in any indoor jungle.

POSITION / LIGHT: Thrives in bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight, which may scorch its delicate leaves and cause fading of the vibrant patterns.
WATERING: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Calathea Marion appreciates humidity, so misting or using a humidifier will help keep its foliage lush.
TEMPERATURE: Enjoys warm conditions between 18–26°C. Protect it from drafts, heaters, or sudden temperature changes.
FERTILISER: Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter.
GROWTH RATE: Moderate grower, forming a neat clump of upright stems with broad, decorative leaves over time.

Should I cut brown leaves off Calathea?
Yes. If a leaf is completely brown or dead, trim it off at the base to allow the plant to redirect energy to new growth. If just the tips are brown, you can trim those carefully with clean scissors.
Does Calathea Marion really move its leaves?
Yes! The leaves rise and fold up at night and lower again in the morning, a natural movement known as nyctinasty, which is why it’s called a “prayer plant.”
What does an overwatered Calathea look like?
Signs include yellowing leaves, limp stems, or soil that feels constantly wet. If the plant looks sad and soggy, check for root rot and let the soil dry out before watering again.
