Long, arching fronds densely packed with soft green leaflets that spill outward in every direction. The Boston Fern is a classic for a reason, bringing a lush, full texture to hanging baskets, shelves and bathroom spaces that few other plants can match. It loves humidity and rewards a little extra attention with growth that feels genuinely abundant.
CARE GUIDE
+ POSITION / LIGHT: Bright indirect light is ideal. Tolerates lower light but growth will slow and the fronds may thin out over time. A bright bathroom is often the perfect spot.
+ WATERING: Keep the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged. Boston Ferns do not like to dry out completely between waterings. Check the soil regularly and water before it dries fully.
+ TEMPERATURE: Happiest between 16–24°C. Sensitive to heat and cold drafts alike. Keep away from heating vents, air conditioning and temperatures below 10°C.
+ FERTILISER: Feed once a month through spring and summer with a diluted balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength. No feeding needed over winter.
+ GROWTH RATE: Moderate to fast in the right conditions. Given humidity, consistent moisture and good indirect light this one will really fill out.
+ PET FRIENDLY: Yes, non-toxic to cats and dogs. 🐾
FAQ'S
1. The fronds are going yellow and dropping. What's wrong? Usually inconsistent watering or low humidity. Boston Ferns like to stay consistently moist and need moisture in the air as much as in the soil. A humidifier or bathroom spot will help significantly.
2. The frond tips are turning brown and crispy. What's causing it? Low humidity is almost always the culprit. Try misting regularly, placing a pebble tray with water beneath the pot, or moving it to a more humid spot like a bathroom.
3. Can I propagate it? Yes. Divide the plant at the base during repotting, ensuring each division has a healthy root system. Pot up in fresh well draining mix and keep consistently moist while it settles in.
