Plant Size ↓

It's the stems that stop you first. Bold zebra-striped patterns in cream and deep green climbing upward to hold large, arrowhead-shaped leaves with an almost architectural elegance. The Zebrina is a genuinely striking plant that brings real sculptural presence to any room it lives in. One for the collector who wants something that earns a second look every single time.

CARE GUIDE

+ POSITION / LIGHT: Bright indirect light is ideal. Avoid direct sun which can scorch the leaves, and avoid very low light which will slow growth significantly.

+ WATERING: Allow the top 2–3cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Well draining soil and a pot with good drainage are essential. Alocasias are sensitive to sitting in wet soil for extended periods.

+ TEMPERATURE: Happiest between 18–27°C. Keep away from cold drafts, air conditioning and temperatures below 15°C.

+ FERTILISER: Feed once a month through spring and summer with a diluted balanced liquid fertiliser. Reduce or stop feeding over winter when growth slows.

+ GROWTH RATE: Moderate. Produces new leaves steadily through the warmer months, each one arriving on its own dramatically patterned stem.

+ PET FRIENDLY: No, toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Keep out of reach.

FAQ'S

1. My Alocasia Zebrina is dropping leaves. Should I be worried? Alocasias shed older leaves as they produce new ones, so some leaf loss is normal. If multiple leaves are dropping at once, check for overwatering, cold drafts or a sudden change in environment and adjust accordingly.

2. The zebra pattern on the stems is fading. What's causing it? Usually insufficient light. Move it to a brighter spot with good indirect light and new stems should come through with stronger, more defined patterning.

3. Can I propagate it? Yes. Divide offsets or corms from the base of the plant during repotting, ensuring each has healthy roots attached. Pot up in fresh well draining mix and keep warm and humid while establishing.
