Sansevieria 〰️ Care Guide
POSITION / LIGHT: Extremely adaptable! Thrives in bright, indirect light but can tolerate low light or even artificial light. Just avoid harsh direct sun for prolonged periods.
WATERING: Water sparingly—every 2–4 weeks depending on the season. Let the soil dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is a no-go!
TEMPERATURE: Loves warm temps (18–30°C). It can tolerate a bit of chill, but hates frost and sudden temperature drops.
FERTILISER: Feed monthly during spring and summer. No need to feed in winter when growth slows.
GROWTH RATE: Slow to moderate. It’s a patient grower, but will gradually fill out its pot over time.
PET FRIENDLY? No. This plant is toxic to pets if ingested. Keep out of reach of pets.
FAQ'S 〰️
What does an overwatered Snake Plant look like?
Soft, mushy leaves, yellowing, and even leaf collapse are red flags. The base may become soggy and smell musty. Stop watering immediately and let the soil dry out. Repot if root rot is present.
Should I remove yellow leaves from a Snake Plant?
Yes—gently trim yellow or mushy leaves at the base with clean scissors. Yellowing is usually a sign of overwatering or poor drainage, so check the soil before watering again.
Do Mother-in-Law Tongues like to be root-bound?
Yes, they actually do! Sansevierias prefer to be a bit snug in their pots. You only need to repot once it’s clearly outgrowing the container or the roots are cracking the pot.
How do I propagate a Sansevieria?
Easy! Cut a healthy leaf into sections (about 5–10 cm each), let the ends callous for a day or two, then pop them into water or well-draining soil. Be patient—roots can take a few weeks to form!
