Deep green leaves pinstriped with creamy white lines, no two exactly the same. The Birkin is one of those plants that looks considered and intentional wherever you put it. It grows steadily, behaves itself, and genuinely rewards a little attention. A great one for anyone who wants something a bit special without the high-maintenance price tag.
CARE GUIDE
+ POSITION / LIGHT: Bright, indirect light brings out the best variegation. Lower light dulls the contrast between the white stripes and dark green leaves.
+ WATERING: Allow the top 2–3cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Consistent moisture is good; soggy roots are not.
+ TEMPERATURE: Happiest between 18–27°C. Keep away from cold windows and air conditioning drafts.
+ FERTILISER: Feed once a month through spring and summer with a diluted balanced liquid fertiliser. Wind back over autumn and winter.
+ GROWTH RATE: Moderate. New leaves unfurl slowly but steadily, each one revealing its own unique stripe pattern.
+ PET FRIENDLY: No, toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Keep out of reach.
FAQ'S
1. My leaves are yellowing. What's wrong? Overwatering is the most common cause. Let the soil dry out a little more between waterings and make sure the pot drains well.
2. Can I propagate it? Yes. Take a stem cutting with at least one node and place it in water or moist soil. Keep it warm and in indirect light while it roots.
3. Why is my Birkin reverting to plain green? This happens when light levels are too low. Move it to a brighter spot and new growth should start showing those stripes again.
