CARE GUIDE
+ POSITION / LIGHT: Low to bright indirect light. Thrives in the kind of spots other plants struggle with, making it ideal for bathrooms and shaded corners.
+ WATERING: Keep the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged. Water around the edges of the pot rather than into the central rosette to avoid rot.
+ TEMPERATURE: Happiest between 18–27°C. Keep away from cold drafts and temperatures below 13°C.
+ FERTILISER: Feed once a month through spring and summer with a diluted balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength. Less is more with ferns.
+ GROWTH RATE: Moderate. New fronds emerge from the centre and unfurl slowly, each one more dramatic than the last.
+ PET FRIENDLY: Yes, non-toxic to cats and dogs. 🐾
FAQ'S
1. The frond tips are going brown and crispy. What's wrong? Low humidity is almost always the cause. Ferns love moisture in the air as much as in the soil. A bathroom spot, regular misting, or a humidifier nearby will make a real difference.
2. The new fronds coming through look straight, not curly. Is something wrong? New growth often emerges more upright before developing its characteristic curl and ruffling as it matures. Give it time and the right conditions and the personality will come through.
3. Can I propagate it? Hurricane Ferns propagate through spores rather than cuttings, making home propagation quite tricky. The easiest way to grow your collection is to divide a mature plant carefully at repotting time.
