🪴 Calathea Zebrina (Zebra Plant)

The Calathea Zebrina, commonly known as the Zebra Plant, is a true showstopper with its velvety leaves patterned in bold, zebra-like stripes of lime and deep green. Its dramatic foliage and elegant shape bring instant tropical luxury to your home. Like other prayer plants, its leaves rise and rest throughout the day, adding a touch of movement and magic to your indoor jungle. Perfect for plant lovers wanting texture, colour, and personality all in one plant.

Calathea Zebrina (Zebra Plant) 〰️ Care Guide

POSITION / LIGHT: Thrives in bright, indirect light. It will tolerate medium light but avoid harsh direct sunlight which can fade and scorch the velvety leaves.

WATERING: Keep the soil evenly moist but never soggy. Water when the top 2–3cm of soil feels dry. Calatheas are sensitive to chemicals in tap water - filtered or rainwater is ideal to prevent browning.

TEMPERATURE: Prefers warm, stable temps between 18–26°C. Keep away from cold drafts and heating vents. Loves a humid environment - ideal for bathrooms or paired with a humidifier.

FERTILISER: Feed monthly during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser. No need to fertilise during winter.

GROWTH RATE: Moderate grower, forming a full, lush clump with beautifully patterned leaves over time.

PET FRIENDLY? Yes! Calathea are non-toxic to pets and safe to have around furry friends.

FAQ'S 〰️

Should I mist my Calathea every day?

Daily misting can help with humidity, especially in dry indoor environments. However, it’s best to combine misting with other methods like using a humidifier or pebble tray for more consistent moisture.

Why are the leaves on my Calathea rufibarba turning yellow?

Yellowing leaves often point to overwatering or poor drainage. Make sure the plant isn’t sitting in water, and allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly before watering again.

Should I cut the brown tips off my Calathea?

Yes, trimming brown tips is totally fine and won’t harm the plant. Use clean scissors and cut just the browned edges. Brown tips are often a sign of low humidity or water quality issues.
