The Asplenium Antiquum, commonly known as the Bird’s Nest Fern ā€˜Antiquum’, is a lush, tropical beauty with glossy, upright, sword-like fronds that radiate in a circular, nest-like shape. Unlike its cousin with ruffled edges, this variety has smoother, arching fronds that give it a more structured and architectural look. It’s the perfect pick for adding fresh, vibrant greenery to your indoor jungle - especially in low-light corners that need a little life.

Bird’s Nest Fern - Antiquum 怰ļø Care Guide

Ā POSITION / LIGHT: Loves medium to bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can burn its fronds. It’s also tolerant of lower light, making it ideal for bathrooms or shaded rooms.

Ā  WATERING: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top 2–3cm of soil feels dry. Avoid pouring water directly into the centre ā€œnestā€ of the plant to prevent rot - water the soil around the base instead.

Ā  TEMPERATURE: Thrives in warm indoor temperatures between 18–26°C. Protect from cold drafts and avoid placing it near air conditioning vents or heaters.

Ā  FERTILISER: Feed monthly during the warmer months with a diluted, balanced liquid fertiliser. Skip feeding in winter when the plant naturally slows down.

Ā  GROWTH RATE: Moderate grower. With proper care, it can reach up to 60cm high and wide, forming a full, bushy rosette of lush green foliage.

Ā  PET FRIENDLY? Yes! Asplenium antiquum is non-toxic to pets and humans - so it’s a safe and stylish choice for homes with furry friends.

FAQ'S 怰ļø

Where should I put my Bird’s Nest Fern?

Somewhere with bright, indirect light and a touch of humidity - think bathrooms, kitchens, or a well-lit shelf out of direct sun. It loves a steady, warm environment without sudden temperature shifts.

Why is my Asplenium turning brown?

Brown tips or fronds can be caused by low humidity, underwatering, direct sunlight, or overly dry air. Try increasing humidity, checking your watering routine, and ensuring it's not too close to a heat source or cold draft.

How to revive a crispy fern?

Trim off any dry or brown leaves. Mist the plant regularly, increase humidity (a pebble tray or humidifier helps), and ensure it's getting enough water without being waterlogged. If the soil is very dry, give it a thorough soak and let it drain well.
