Elegant, sculptural, and full of grace, the Calla Lily is the kind of plant that turns heads with minimal effort. Its iconic trumpet-shaped flowers rise proudly above lush green foliage, making it a popular choice for both indoor displays and garden beds. Whether you’re after a pop of colour or a sleek all-white statement, Calla Lilies bring that timeless sophistication to any setting - without needing a whole lot of fuss.

Calla Lily 〰️ Care Guide

POSITION / LIGHT: Indoors, bright indirect light is best. Outdoors, they love full sun to part shade. Too much direct sunlight indoors can dry them out, but too little light and they’ll sulk.

WATERING: Water regularly to keep the soil moist but not soggy. During their active growing and blooming period (spring and summer), they’re a little thirstier. Reduce watering once flowering ends and allow the soil to dry slightly in dormancy.

TEMPERATURE: Calla Lilies like things warm and cosy - ideally between 18–24°C. They don’t tolerate frost, so if growing outside in colder areas, bring them indoors over winter or treat them as annuals.

FERTILISER: Feed every 2–3 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser to support blooms. No need to fertilise during dormancy.

GROWTH RATE: Moderate grower. Expect blooms and leafy growth to reach around 40–60cm tall when happy.

PET FRIENDLY? No. Calla Lilies are toxic if ingested by pets or people. Keep them away from curious nibbles.

FAQ'S 〰️

Do Calla Lilies do better in pots or in the ground?

They thrive in both! In pots, they’re easy to move indoors during colder months, and you have more control over water and light. In the ground, they do best in warm climates with well-draining soil and a bit of afternoon shade.

How do you keep lilies alive indoors?

Give them bright, indirect light, regular water (without soggy roots), and consistent warmth. After blooming, allow the foliage to die back naturally as the plant rests—then resume care in spring to encourage regrowth.

How to propagate a Calla Lily?

Calla Lilies are propagated by dividing rhizomes. Wait until the plant has gone dormant, gently dig up the rhizomes, and separate them. Replant each piece in fresh soil when you're ready to bring them back for the next growing season.
